Certificate Program in Imagery Program Description:
Holistic Healing using Guided Imagery Techniques
This unique certificate program offers
in-depth, hands-on training in the expanding field of guided
imagery techniques, which goes beyond scripted guided imagery. It is a powerful
modality that fosters active participation and disease prevention,
returning the focus of holistic healing to the individual.
The guided imagery process is transformative for the practitioner
and the client, simultaneously. Guided imagery instruction
uses varied methods such as lecture, group discussion, experiential
exercises and practice in pairs and small groups under mentor
guidance.
Presented within the holistic nursing model, the program is
specifically designed for registered nurses and licensed health
care professionals.
Certification
To be certified in this modality, phases must be taken sequentially
and successfully completed, along with submittal of 10 documented
imagery sessions. Graduates will receive individualized written
feedback after submission of the sessions within three months
of graduation. 24.0 contact hours for the documented sessions.
Program Content
- Core concepts in integrative medicine, psychoneuroimmunology,
and holistic healing
- Principles and theory of the guided imagery process
- Stress management strategies and self-care as an integral
aspect of professional practice
- A variety of breathing and relaxation techniques
- Eight distinct guided imagery techniques in the practicum
phases and phase IV
Course Outline
Each phase is an evening and three days spaced at approximately
three-month intervals Phase I through III and six months between
phases III and IV.
Phase I: (20.4 hours)
Core concepts and fundamental principles of the guided imagery
process. Scientific theory of psychoneuroimmunology.
Basic and expanded information with guided imagery techniques
and relaxation. Essential guiding skills. Scope of practice,
limitations and precautions. Experiential dyads with the basic
skills of guiding a client through a formal imagery session.
Phase II: (21.5 hours)
Practicum: During phase II and III, the heart of the program,
participants will learn six distinct, innovative guided
imagery techniques and have a unique opportunity to develop
your skills as a guided imagery practitioner, plus experience
this remarkable process from the inside out, as a client
and as an observer.
Each day a specific guided imagery technique is taught, demonstrated
and practiced in pairs under mentor supervision.
Day I: Inner Wisdom
Day II: Working with an Image
Day III: Accessing Inner Strengths
Phase III: (21.5 hours)
Practicum: Same format as Phase II.
Day I: Inner Healer
Day II: Parts Work
Day III: Pain Control
Prerequisite for Phase IV is successful completion of Phase
III.
Phase IV: (20.6 hours)
- Integration of guided imagery skills and techniques into
clinical practice
- Presentation of client imagery sessions by program
participants.
- Palliative care
- Two additional guided
imagery techniques: Moving guided imagery into action
and exploring life purpose
